By Indra Thapa Chhetri, member of PTPI's Kathmandu, Nepal (Peace Nepal) Chapter
I first heard about PTPI in 2004 through one of my friends. At first, I was attracted to the name “People to People,” the mission, and the concept of Peace through Understanding. Then I started to know more - and more by printing and studying the entire bylaws of PTPI, I was eager to register in Nepal.
During a time when peace was in peril in Nepal due to Maoists insurgency, I decided it was high time to establish a PTPI chapter. I worked long and hard to make it chartered; I left no stone unturned and many times it was questioned by PTPI staff. Finally, it was chartered by PTPI World Headquarters.
To this day, I am passionately involved in PTPI activities. I played a main role in organizing the PTPI Asia Pacific Conference in Nepal. In 2011, I helped organize many activities of relief programs for landslide, flood, and earthquake victims. I participated in the Worldwide Conference in Arizona and Estonia - and in cultural exchanges and homestays in Japan, Switzerland, and USA. I am proud to be associated with PTPI, and I look forward to participating in more activities to enhance and promote the goal and mission Peace through Understanding. PTPI is really honoring its objectives by enhancing people to people relations worldwide.
