| We encourage you to form a Global Book Club in your own community. Here are some questions to ask yourself before you begin:
-
Why are you starting your book club? What do you hope to learn from it?
-
What type of people will make up the group? Will you be inviting fellow chapter members, friends or family?
-
What are the minimum and maximum numbers of members your club can accommodate?
-
As the founding member, are you interested in being the club’s leader?
-
How much time can you devote to organizing meetings, refreshments and discussions? If you cannot, will other members be willing to take on these responsibilities?
-
When will your first meeting take place? How often will your club meet?
-
What will you name your book club?
Once the group is established and the schedule is set, it is time to read and share!
Encourage members to take notes, highlight sections of the book and mark pages that they found significant while reading the book. This will help aid in the discussion.
Share all thoughts about the book – be open! It is always good to be honest with your fellow readers and yourself – did you find the book engaging? What was your favorite part? Would you compare this to another book you have read before? Did you like the author’s writing style?
Once the conversation begins, it is always good to have a moderator. This member’s role is to keep conversation moving. Visit the book publisher’s Web site before the meeting to gather pre-made discussion questions and/or search for general book club discussion questions online. PTPI will also send emails with information for those reading along with us.
During meetings we suggest visiting the PTPI Blog to share your group’s ideas with the rest of our PTPI family and read commentary from other members of the Global Book Club.
We wish you the best of luck! You may direct questions to Paige Leitnaker at classroom@ptpi.org. |
