PTPI’s Brooklyn, New York (LMGHS) Student Chapter
The chapter recently engaged their school in a project to collect clothing and coats
for the needy. After a few months of collecting items, they boxed up the clothes
and coats and arranged a donation pick-up with the Salvation Army. The chapter also
continued an event they participated in last year called “Cell Phones for Soldiers.”
For this collection drive, chapter members and their peers were asked to donate
old cell phones and chargers which the chapter arranged to be picked up and given
to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan so that they may communicate with their families.
Medfield, Massachusetts Student Chapter
Along with Japanese Showa University Students, the chapter cooked and served Thanksgiving
dinner to Afghanistan guests. The entrees included sushi, banana muffins and brownies!
The Afghanistan students joined in on the cooking fun. After the meal, the chapter
members participated in a recreational football game in one of the chapter member’s
backyard while their Afghani guests cheered for them on the sidelines. The chapter
and guests also engaged in lots of conversation where people shared information
about their cultural traditions. To learn more about the plight of the young people
growing up in Afghanistan, feel free to listen to these oral narratives:

To increase its chapter’s productivity, PTPI’s Katowice, Poland Student Chapter
recently reorganized its members into five distinct committees. Each committee is
designed to focus on a specific chapter-related task such as Sister Chapter development,
GYSD/Team Peace Challenge planning, fundraising, publicity or chapter web-site maintenance.
Chapter members get to choose on which committee on which they would like to serve.
Chapter president Ewa Dudzic explained that the aim of this strategy is to “make
members more active,” and “set goals not only for officers but also for each and
every member who will play an important role.”

Learn how PTPI’s Princeton, New Jersey Student Chapter found success in recruiting
new chapter members!
The chapter asked each of its members to review PTPI’s website and develop two to
three sentences about PTPI to share with prospective members. The chapter then compiled
these sentences into a list of the “Top 10 Reasons to Join PTPI.” Using this list,
chapter members were able to hold much more focused conversations with their peers
about the goals and benefits of PTPI. As a result, they generated a lot of interest
among potential chapter recruits.
Keep in mind that regardless of how you recruit members, brushing up on PTPI info
