Dear Friend,
My name is Amanda Johnson, and I am a 12 year-old
female in sixth grade. I am writing to you from
my social studies class at my school, North Middle
School, in Township, Missouri, U.S.A. I have enclosed
my photograph with this letter. In the photograph,
I am the second person from the left wearing a
red shirt and blue jeans. The other people in
the photograph are my grandparents and parents.
The photograph is from my birthday last year.
I have two brothers older and one sister younger
than me. My brothers' names are Brian and Robert.
They are twins and both 15 years old. My sister's
name is Anne, and she is 9 years old. My mother
is an elementary school teacher, and my father
is an accountant at a bank. We live in a two-story
house that is white with blue trim. I share a
bedroom with my sister. Our family pet is an orange
tabby cat named Max. We hope to get a kitten soon.
I participate in many activities. My family and
I are Methodist, and we attend church on Sundays.
I also play soccer (called football in Europe
and elsewhere) on the weekends and want to play
volleyball after school. I am learning to play
the piano. I like to read books and go to the
public library with my mother.
My hometown is located in the mid United States
called the Midwest. There are about 55,000 people
living here, but there are many more towns and
cities around us. The landscape has small, rolling
hills and there are many lakes nearby that we
sometimes visit to swim or fish. The seasons of
the weather change often. The summer is very hot
and humid, while the winter is cold and windy,
and we get much snow.
I am proud to be an American and live in the
United States. This is a very beautiful country
that gives its citizens many opportunities for
which I am thankful. I am currently learning about
the exploration of America in my social studies
class. Eventually, we will learn about the explorers
Lewis and Clark who sailed the Missouri River
and explored territory around my hometown many
years ago.
I hope to learn much about you and your country
through the People to People International School
and Classroom Program. Please tell me about yourself
and where you live. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Amanda Johnson
