Traveling
Buddy
A popular project for young students is exchanging a traveling
buddy between partner classrooms. A buddy is a small toy that
represents its home country. It travels with photographs, letters
or cultural information about its home class and gathers information
about the places and people it visits. After arriving in another
country, the buddy is named by the partner class and given an item
or piece of clothing related to the region it is visiting. During
the day, the buddy visits the classroom, meets the teacher, students
and principal or headteacher, and explores the school and
playgrounds. At night, the buddy travels home with a
student. Students record the buddy's adventures in pen pal
letters. The buddy eventually travels home with the letters,
photographs and other memorabilia.
